Very ornate William and Mary-style arm chair has arched crest rail; conforming lower back rail; rectangular caned back panel with arched top enclosed by carved stiles; elaborately turned stiles with carved finials; loose velvet seat cushion; narrow carved seat rails; legs with block, ovoid and ring turnings; bun feet; rear and side stretchers; and large carved front stretcher. Chair features elaborate carving with foliate and scroll motifs on most wood surfaces. Title, design notes and "F. E. Peabody / Similar chair made for / White House" are handwritten on drawing.
