Du Bois, relaying his condolences; remarking on the irony of his death's confluence with the "greatest event due to the organization he founded" (the N.A.A.C.P.); and suggesting she will be consoled "by the fact that he was favored by fortune and that he will always be remembered as the pioneer in the fight for equality."
