William and Mary Blanket Chest - painted and grained pine. Early 18th century, American. Four ball feet with basal pads supporting a moulded apron. The facia with double-arch mouldings fitted with one real and three simulated drawrs, the conforming moulded hinged lid, 35" x 18" d. x 38" high. Some moulding missing. Painted decoration added later. History: Chest belonged to Deacon Joseph Adams at the time of the battle of Lexington, from which the British soldiers took communion service and church linen of the Second Precinct Church of Cambridge, now the Unitarian Church of Arlington.
