Caption: "Northeastern University (Boston, Mass.) conferred honorary degrees upon U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts and Richard Cardinal Cushing at its 64th Annual Commencement Exercises at Boston Garden Sunday, June 20. Some 2,370 degree candidates and 15,000 relatives and friends of the graduates heard Senator Kennedy deliver the commencement address. The Senator was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Public Administration and Cardinal Cushing received the honorary Doctor of Laws.
