Class Potrait of Unidentified Elementary School Class
Description:
Class portrait of about 25 children, both boys and girls, in three rows. The children appear to be around the age of ten, and the clothing style dates it to the late 1800s. The photograph was taken outdoors, and some of the children are holding hoops. At the end of the back row is an elderly man, and behind all the children is a young woman. Note attached reads: "This group of students are, I believe, at the side entrance to Russell school where today a driveway seperates the Arlington Catholic High School from the businesses on Medford Street. I believe the man in back is James Thaxter, who was custodian of that school for some time. Mr. Thaxter was the grandfather of B. Frank Swan, a local amateur photographer, many of whose photos are in the hands of the Historical Society." Printed by Alden's, 63 Court Street, Boston. The photograph is torn in the middle. 6 1/2 x 4 14 in.
