Oral history interview with Maria Cunha on April 23, 2008. Biographical Note: Maria Cunha arrived in the United States in 1967. She moved to Lowell, MA from the island of Terceira, with her parents and two younger siblings. She worked for the International Institute and later worked for Congressman Meehan. Scope and Contents: Interview conducted by Christoph Strobel. Ms. Cunha discusses preconceived notions of the U.S., her immigration journey, her parents' work in the mills, the Portuguese community in the 1960s, learning English, parents as an immigrant, working to help other people in the immigrant communit, how the Park Service can further engage with local communities.
