Gonpei notes a correction to his mailing address, and the poor performance of the Worcester postal force. He describes his growing indifference towards Miss Webber, apologizes for not giving Toku's regards to Miss Prindle, and discusses the differences in their courses of study. Gonpei asks Toku's opinion on intermarriage, says that he has decided it would require too great a sacrifice for both parties, and cites "statistics and scientific proof" that the children die early and are unattractive.
