This is an eight page letter from Edward M. Ryan to Laurence L. Doggett. It is dated March 10, 1916. In the letter Ryan keeps Doggett up to date on what has been happening to him in New Zealand and all the progress he has managed to accomplish in his time there.

Edward M. Ryan (1878-1970) was born in Stretford, Manchester, England. He was a graduate of the class of 1911 He was known affectionately as "The Major" by the fellows at the YMCA in Wellington New Zealand where he spent his time before and after his war service. He served in three wars in the British Army, the Boer War, World War I, and World War II. During the First World War he served as a Y.M.C.A. field secretary at Awapuni and Trentham camps in France; and in the Second World War he served as an officer of the Wellington Y.M.C.A., which gave shelter to thousands of troops. He died in 1970.
