Half-length portrait of boy with striped ribbon as bowtie around his neck, his collar folded down over it, a kerchief sticking out of his right breast pocket. Six of his jacket buttons are clearly visible, the seventh is fuzzy at bottom of image. His cheeks have been colored by hand. Title devised by cataloger. Oval mat, stamped "Heywood 173 Wash'n St." in lower right corner, with decorative band around opening. Decorative protector. Red velvet lining embossed with scrolls. Papier-macheÌ case, made to resemble a small book, is inlaid with mother of pearl rose and leaves, stems painted gold and brown and bordered in gold paint. Back is plain; rose is cracked; cover is unattached. Latch had two hinge parts attached to center of case on each side which were connected by a third piece; hinge on front is gone.
