Alberto Regina with Beanie
Item Information
- Title:
- Alberto Regina with Beanie
- Description:
-
This photograph shows Alberto Regina kneeling in front of Lake Massasoit (also known as Watershops Pond) on the campus of the International YMCA College, now called Springfield College. He is wearing a freshmen beanie. His note on the back translates to: “Greetings to all. What do you think of the cap? Alberto.” This document is part of the Alberto Regina Scrapbook - Physical Education, page seventeen: http://cdm16122.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p15370coll2/id/4424. In a tradition that began in the early 1920s and continues today, entering students to Springfield College wear beanies when they first arrive. Originally students were required to wear their beanies until Stepping Up Day in the spring, when they officially moved up from freshman status. Today, wearing a beanie is no longer required, although over ninety percent of all entering freshman still elect to continue the tradition.
