Notes:
This slide was taken sometime during November 1916, when the International YMCA College (now Springfield College) students were given three days off from classes to participate in Work Days. During this time, the students used sand to grade land as part of a construction project adjacent to Pratt Field. Grading refers to the engineering and construction work necessary to ensure a level base (or one with a specified slope). Teams were hired to deliver sand, and the students worked in units of twelve. Springfield College gave free cider and doughnuts to the students. According to old catalogue notes, Mr. Bunker organized this project, which was one of several campus grading projects completed by students.
Text on border reads, "Time Keeper. Grading by Students 1916(7?)."
