The interview was part of the We are Boston: Stories of Hope, Struggle, and Resilience oral history project created in 2018 by poet and Boston artist-in-residence Daniel Johnson.Candelaria Norma Silva-Collins was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Boston to attend Northeastern University. She discusses growing up in St. Louis; moving to Boston; living in Roxbury and Dorchester; her work with the New Beginnings program, Families First program, and directing the cultural development program ACT Roxbury. She describes her love for the city; lack of affordable housing; schools; concerns about aging in the city including isolation and transportation; and advice for the future.
