Dr. Laurence L. Doggett writes to Mrs. Marvin, mother of Charles B. Marvin, in this type written letter dated September 14, 1917. Doggett apologizes for Mrs. Marvin's grievance regarding a pamphlet that Dr. Ballantine wrote. He encloses a copy of the pamphlet and defends Ballantine's church as the oldest and most spiritually aggressive in America. He also encloses a hymn that Dr. Ballantine writes that he feels embodies his spirit and teachings.

Charles B. Marvin (1896-1976) attended Springfield College from 1914-1917 and is listed as an alumni of 1918. He served in both world wars and continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves for thirty eight years. He died in 1976 at the age of 80.
