<mods:abstract>This is a postcard of the International YMCA Training School (now Springfield College) Pratt Field and Football team. The postcard was provided to guests as compliments of Hotel Worthy in Springfield, Massachusetts. The front of the postcard is split lengthwise, with a photo of the grandstand at Pratt Field on the top and a photo of the Springfield College football team in a play formation on the bottom. The text at the bottom says "Springfield, Mass. Pratt Field of International Y.M.C.A. Training School, where the inter-collegiate track contexts are held, and the strenuous life exemplified at its best." On the back is space to write a message, place a stamp and a photo of the Hotel Worthy. Text next to the photo says "Compliments of Hotel Worthy, Springfield, Massachusetts, where there is 'always something doing" Three minutes' walk from Union Station and Opposite Post Office Time tried and Table Tested." The postcard is thought to have been printed around 1910 to 1912 as Pratt Field opened in 1910 and the school changed its name to the International YMCA College in 1912.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note>Pratt Field was a gift of Mr. Herbert L. Pratt. It consisted, originally, of a quarter-mile track, 220 yard straightaway twenty-four feet wide, eleven runaways and pits for jumping and vaulting, seven tennis courts, a football field, and a baseball diamond. An eight-foot high reinforced concrete fence surrounds the field. The entrances were designed by Edward Lippincourt Tilton, who also designed Springfield's Judd Gymnasium and the Marsh Memorial Building. Part of Pratt field is still used today for track and field, however the name was changed to Blake Field.</mods:note>
