US Two dollars 5/1780 Continental Issued by Mass Bay Printed by Hall & Sellers State of Massachusetts Five Dollars 5/1780 Confidential Issued by Mass Bay Printed by Hall and Sellers One side of this bank note, the text says "Two Dollars. State of Maffachufetts (Massachusetts) Bay. Followed by the number (3781) and Two Dollars. The following paragraph reads: "The Poffeffor (Possessor) of this Bill shall be paid four Spanifh (Spanish) milled Dollars by the thirty-firft (thirty-first) Day of December. One Thousand S..(even) Hundred and Eighty-fix (eighty-six), with intereft (interest) in like..(money) at the rate of Five per Centum per Annum (five per hundred of year)..(By the stat)e of Maffachusetts-bay, according to an Act .,.(of the legisla)ture of the faid (said) state of the Fifth Day of May of 1780". Annual and monthly interest is at the bottom left corner of note while signatures of R. Cranch (Richard Cranch- Massachusetts Legislator according to LibraryThing.org) and Loam Baldwin are on the bottom right. Back side of Two Dollar note contains a grain being threshed (separated) with a tool known as a flail with the phrase Tribulatio ditat (meaning "It is enriched with Affliction"). The text says "Printed by Hall and Sellers. The United..(States) enfure (ensure) the Payment of the wi..(thin Bill), and will draw Bills of Exchange..f(or the Inter)eft annually, if demanded, according to a Refolution (Resolution) of congress of the 18th of March, 1780". A faded signature from Legislator Joe Henderson is at the bottom. One side of this bank note, the text says "Five Dollars. State of Maffachufetts (Massachusetts) Bay. Followed by the number (6695) and Four Dollars. A faded signature from Legislator Thomas Walley is at the bottom.
