Letter from Reginald A. H. Robson and Monica Robson to Caleb Foote
Description:
His recommendation for tenure at Nebraska started troubles, since the state forbids employment of aliens who have been in the US long enough to become American citizens. As a pacifist on humanitarian, rather than religious grounds, he faces a problem, since immigration law requires religious motives for conscientious objection. Dilemma in signing the declaration that he will bear arms on behalf of the US; concerned if he does sign that his c.o. status during the war will be found out.
