<mods:abstract>These newspaper pictures and descriptions, published in the Springfield Republican, show the Kampus Trailer Kolony that was provided by Springfield College for married students. The first page shows a picture of a little boy behind a fence with a dog sitting in the leaves directly in front of the fence. There is also a small house or trailer behind the little boy and the page is titled "Canine baby-sitter at Kampus Kolony." The next two pages of the newspaper show multiple pictures of the lifestyle at the Kolony. There are pictures of the study corners, community laundry room, play areas, baby-sitters and other workers in the housing area.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note>Kampus Kolony provided housing for about 100 people from 31 Springfield College student families. The Kolony had its own government, fire department, bottled gas distribution agency, and a community hall. Two trailer camps were built at the end of World War II for the Springfield College campus. The one shown here was located at the southern end of Springfield's Alumni Hall along the shores of Lake Massasoit. The other one was located on East Campus, but it was taken down around 1951. However, Kampus Kolony was also taken down in 1959 to make room for more buildings at Springfield College.</mods:note>
