Hispanic American youths stand the street corner opposite La Alianza Hispana headquarters in Roxbury, Mass., after participating in a program
Description:
Beginning in 1970, La Alianza Hispana has offered programs to Latino youths. Youth services have since grown in three areas: children's services, counseling and advocacy, and education. In 1978, the Youth Development Unit of La Alianza Hispana was established and expanded services to include: summer camp; summer youth recreational programs; substance abuse intervention and prevention; adolescent counseling; support groups for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth; cultural arts programs; recreational activities; after school and tutoring programs; General Equivalency Diploma test preparation; English as a second language courses; and vocational and educational counseling. This photograph was taken from an upper story window at La Alianza Hispana headquarters at 409 Dudley Street, Roxbury, Mass. Five of the youths standing on the street corner are facing Mt. Pleasant Avenue and are walking towards La Alianza Hispana. The three other people on the street corner are looking towards Blue Hill Avenue.
