<mods:abstract>Speakers at the Taino Tower groundbreaking ceremony gather for a group portrait. Clara Garcia is third from the left and holds an ornate doorknocker in her hand. Roger Herzog is fifth from the left. Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción converted the burnt-out church at 640 Tremont Street (formerly Shawmut Congregational Church, built 1864, damaged by fire in 1978) into affordable homeownership condominiums and ground-floor commercial space. The housing was called Taino Tower after the Taino, the native inhabitants of Puerto Rico.</mods:abstract>
