The LGBTQ+ Boston Button and Pin Collection brings together various LGBTQ+ buttons and pins from the Boston area dating from approximately 1973-2009. The majority of the digitized buttons and pins relate to LGBTQ+ political activism, Pride marches, AIDS activism, and the leather scene in and around New England. The collection was acquired by Queer History Boston, Boston’s LGBTQ+ community archive, from multiple donors over the course of several decades. These digitized materials represent a sample of a larger collection. Please contact Queer History Boston for additional information.
The LGBTQ+ Boston Button and Pin Collection is arranged into four series:
Series I: Organizations: Series I includes 61 buttons and pins primarily produced by LGBTQ+ political and social groups of New England, with limited national and international representation.
Series II: AIDS Activism: Series II contains 31 buttons and pins relating to AIDS activism in the United States.
Series III: Leather Community: Series III contains 129 buttons and pins relating primarily to the gay male leather community of New England, with limited national and international representation.
Series IV: General: Series IV contains 137 buttons and pins related to a variety of LGBTQ+ events, bars, and activist causes.
