Walker v. Jennison

or
This collection consists of court records filed in the case of Walker v. Jennison, heard in the Worcester County Court of Common Pleas in 1781 and appealed to the Supreme Judicial Court for Worcester County. Included are writs, recognizances, and other documents filed in cases before both courts.

This was the first of three cases related to Quock Walker, an enslaved man "owned" by Nathaniel Jennison of Barre, Massachusetts. In this case, Walker successfully sued Jennison for assault and battery, and the verdict was upheld after an appeal to the Supreme Judicial Court. For related materials, see collections for the Jennison v. Caldwell and Commonwealth v. Jennison cases.
