William Franklin Abbott (1892-1980) was a well-known building contractor in Salem, Massachusetts. He served as Clerk of the Works during the construction of the elderly housing project at Salem Willows. For many years, he and his father, George F. Abbott, maintained a shop, George F. Abbott & Son, at 8 1/2 Norman Street, Salem.

This collection contains color slides of the construction of the Elderly Housing Project at Salem Willows in 1958, color slides of the destruction of the Salem depot at Norman and Washington Streets and the construction of the tunnel and overpass from 1956 to 1958, and color slides of various buildings in Salem and other Essex County (Mass.) towns from 1955 to 1957.

The Abbott collection also includes a scrapbook about the Salem Rebuilding Commission. The finding aid for the collection can be here.
