Charles F. Johnson Collection, 1895-1928
Charles Frederick Johnson was born on April 19, 1894 in Kulangsu, or the Gulangyu, Gulang Island, China. His parents were Frederick Richard and Fannie (Green) Johnson. Frederick was a missionary in China when Charles was born. Charles married Clare B. Stromsmoe on July 1, 1916, in Spokane, Washington. Charles died on March 10, 1936 in Los Angeles, California.
This collection contains 110 lantern slides of people and places, presumably in China, and of cartoons. It is unclear if Johnson is the photographer or not.
The Phillips Library holds additional items belonging to Johnson. The collection includes the lantern slides in this digital collection, postcards, and a few personal items. The finding aid for the papers can be here.
