The Nichols Family Photograph Collection

or
The Nichols Family Photograph Collection contains photographs collected by the Nichols family. Many of the photographs are undated, although those bearing dated inscriptions range between 1850 and 1953. The collection includes individual and group portraits of the Nichols family, as well as their relatives, friends, and acquaintances. It also includes images of gardens, landscapes, buildings, artwork, and decorative arts that reflect Rose Nichols’ writing and research on the history of landscape design in Europe -- particularly her books and magazine articles on Italian and Spanish gardens.

Bequeathed by Rose Standish Nichols to the Nichols House Museum in 1960, and incorporating photographs donated more recently by Nichols family descendants, the collection comprises 282 loose photographs, 1 daguerreotype, 1 glass plate negative, and 3 photographic albums.
