Text on back of item: Died in 1986. Charles Peter Averka, born in 1904 in Maynard MA. During the 1912 strike children from Lawrence were sent to various places. Charles was sent to new York. This picture was taken on madison Ave. He was the oldest child. According to his sister K, Charles never talked about his trip to New York. All he said was 'I used to cry and said I want my momy [sic].' When he came back to Lawrence he worked in the Arlington Mills. A boss encouraged him to go to school. He graduated from high school in 1921. He played football and basketball and received scholarship to study in the Univ. of New Hampshire. He joined the army an dlater became Lit. Colonel. His parents came separately from Lithuania which was under the dominance of Russian Tsar.
