The ten-page letter is a first-hand account of the capture of HMS Java by USS Constitution on December 29, 1812. Some highligths of the letter include criticism of the American crew's plundering, the honorable conduct of William Bainbridge, and the discrepancy regarding the number of wounded and killed.</mods:abstract>
