Reviewing events of recent months, and discussing various articles. In Italian. Written for publication in "L'Adunata del Refrattari". Translation: He talks about a series of articles written by Giuseppe G. Leary in the New York “World, gives titles of six article headings. Translator’ note: Vanzetti now starts a review of the last few months.] On 13 September 1926 began motion for a review of the case. “Thompson was magnificent. Thayer senile... Tomney young, cynical... The press claims impartiality; we have no illusions. 23 October 1926. Fourth and probably last decision of Thayer, just like the earlier ones. “Then your powerful protest ... He must explain the situation which is very difficult. The defense turned to the State Supreme Court who were not prepared to act. Vanzetti talks of arguments back and forth between Thompson and Thayer. Agitations, new committees, sub-committees were formed – protests in large cities, petitions. Explains that Fuller doesn’t want to interfere now when case is in Supreme Court, but will give it careful attention when it comes before him. In a.m. of 6 November, the Governor aboard the S.S. France received letter signed by 30 editors and other press requesting the removal of Thayer from the case. Vanzetti quotes from the letter. The Governor responded in same way as always. Vanzetti summarizes more about various efforts on his behalf. “Most surprising of all ... is attitude of capitalist press. A fiery editorial by the New York “World was reprinted by the Boston “Herald and accompanied by a favorable editorial there. He lists all the categories of persons who are now speaking up for them “in the name of conscience. Points out that the press is now critical of Thayer. On the 19th the Sabbath, Illinois, “Democrat presented a resolution on their behalf in Congress. Pages 9-12 discuss various articles (one by the Forensic Association of Worcester, another about Bushnell. Another which refers to frank B. Hall, the ex-Chairman of the State Republican Committee). In all instances the arguments presented in these articles are quoted at some length and then commented on. Page 13. Vanzetti quotes from letter to the editor of the Boston “Herald by Willard L. Sperry. Pages 14-16. Vanzetti quotes at length all the points of the argument presented by Storey whose views were printed in the “Herald. Vanzetti answers each of the points, getting more and more excited. Talks about Medeiros, also with great excitement. “We must be killed for the sake of Thayer and Co. “Miserabill. Page 17. “My long and boring account is completed. Exhorts his friends to courage. “Also in the name of il buon Nicola, I send you brotherly greetings, Yours for liberty. Footnote: If Nicola has written , change this. P.S. They tell me that the Department of Justice is bombarded daily by protests... they don’t even forward them... but threw them away."
