- Description:
-
Marian Wolfson, a resident of Amherst, MA, was born and raised on Long Island, NY and got an undergraduate degree in physics. She later pivoted to working for social service and political work for non-profits. She moved to the Northampton area with her wife when their son was a toddler, in order to find a community in which a lesbian couple would find support in raising children. She suffers from chronic pain, is an addict in longtime recovery, and is active in Narcotics Anonymous. In this interview, Wolfson describes how her initial reactions to learning about the COVID pandemic were heavily influenced by science fiction books she read through the course of her life. She discusses the ways in which online cultural events, performances, and virtual tours expanded her and other disabled people’s access to those things, her anger that that access was not a priority beforehand, as well as anger about disabled people’s lives have been treated as expendable. She also discusses her involvement in organizing online Narcotics Anonymous meetings, as well as her deep appreciation for the meaning and importance of interpersonal relationships in our lives.
