Holograph, signed.
Joseph Ricketson gives news of New Bedford people, especially Mr. Thomas Mandell's engagement to Miss Osgood. Arthur [perhaps the son of Daniel Ricketson] has been transferred from the gulf squadron to the Atlantic. Joseph has not been well; he was greatly disappointed at not being able to attend the convention and see the departure of the 54th Massachusetts [black] Regiment. The proceeds of [Wendell] Phillips's lecture before the Cooper's Institute will be invested in the sending of the Anti-Slavery Standard to soldiers. Joseph has suggested to Oliver Johnson three names of recipients, including the Rev. William Jackson, a black chaplain of the 54th Mass. Regiment, and Ruth Russels, head nurse at Hilton Head.
