The Great Colonial Hurricane, August 26, 1635. The storm supported the greatest winds and surge of any hurricane in New England history and was perfectly positioned to inflict maximum impact on Narragansett Bay, Buzzards Bay, and the southeast coast. Reconstructed track, with hourly positions in local time, pressure in millibars (mb), and maximum wind speed in miles per hour (mph). Circles represent the approximate location of maximum wind velocity, thirty-five miles from the center. Red arrows show the reconstructed wind speed directed into the major bays.
