The changing number of archaeological sites over time for coastal New England and New York. From fewer than sixty sites through the Middle Archaic period, the number increased to a peak in the Late Archaic period (463), dropped through the Early Woodland period (251), and increased in the Late Woodland period (908). There are few contact period sites.
