Caption on item: The old Doten house on Sandwich street, Plymouth, is to be rebuilt another season into a fine modern summer residence for Mr. Morten Mott-Smith of Boston, who first bought the house with adjoining property. The sale of the Doten house means the demolition of Plymouth's oldest landmark. The house was built about the year 1660 by William Harlow, who occupied it with his family for many years. From him it descended to his son, Samuel, who subsequently sold it through the hands of Ebenezer Rider, Nathaniel Doten, Prince Doten and the heirs of David Holmes. More recently it was owned by Mrs. Daniel Churchill from whom it was bought by Mr. Mott-Smith.
