Boston Children's Hospital facilities team gives a final tour of the soon to be demolished Wolbach Building
Description:
The Wolbach Building was originally constructed in 1914 as the Infant's Hospital. It was later sold to Harvard Medical School and became the Harvard Medical School and became the Harvard School of Public Health, where Dr. Phillip Drinker developed the iron lung in 1928. Boston Children's purchased the building from Harvard in the 1970s and named it after former hospital president William Wolbach. The building closed in 2015 in preparation of the construction of the Hale Family Clinical Building. I was given a tour of the gutted out building along with Dr. Rockoff, chair of the archives committee. This is a photo of the iconic staircase in the building's foyer. Many hospital events were hosted in this space and it was surreal to see it stripped of its beautiful cast iron railings and empty. Pictured: Craig Allhusen, Steve Smith, and Dr. Mark Rockoff. Location: Wolbach Building, Boston Children's Hospital.
