Original data provided by Leslie Jones or the Boston Public Library on the negative or negative sleeve: Amateur, 1940
Corrected date based on research by the Society for American Baseball Research, 2010-2011.
Summary provided by the Society for American Baseball Research, 2010-2011.
Prior to a regular season game between the Red Sox and Philadelphia Athletics on May 23, 1942, major leaguers Ted Williams (who had enlisted in the Navy just the day before), Cleveland pitcher Bob Feller, and Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Hugh Mulcahey all posed for Leslie Jones' camera. Based on the uniform intials on the players jersey fronts and sleeves, this is Feller's Quonset Naval Air Station team vs. Mulcahey's Fort Devens R.R.C. squad (Society for American Baseball Research, 2010-2011).
