Increase S. Smith was glad to learn from Caroline Weston's letter, which was written after "the meeting" [of the Mass. Anti-Slavery Society], that the meeting "terminated so favorably for the Mass. Board." He gives an enthusiastic account of the sermons delivered in Hingham by Dr. Charles Theodor C. Follen. Referring to resolutions passed at the convention of two (anti-slavery?) societies in Hingham, Increase S. Smith states that the Female Society is not recognized. He inquires about the real cause of the trouble between the American and the Massachusetts Societies; he believes that "sectarian prejudice is the principal cause."
