<mods:note>Abby Kelley Foster acknowledges the letter from E. M. Davis, sent by Maria Weston Chapman. Just before the election, New Hampshire is "the state of states for anti-slavery effort." Abby K. Foster will, nevertheless, go to Pennsylvania with Jane E. Hitchcock. She wants the campaign postponed until after the election. Abby K. Foster's throat is affected; she can only speak three or four evenings a week. She thinks it best "for as large a force as can be mustered to go into the same section." Abby K. Foster remarks confidentially that "some of our force is not to be trusted alone" and comments on Frederick Douglass and John M. Spear. The N.H. Board has postponed bringing [John R.] French's conduct before the public this week on account of [Nathaniel P.] Roger's sickness. Benjamin Thompson of Durham, NH, a rich "recent convert and an ardent admirer of Q[uincy]" might contribute a hundred dollars if Edmund Quincy writes to him.</mods:note>
