Image of the Rowland Thomas, one of the Mount Tom Rail Road's trolleys. Named for one of the two founders of Holyoke, and the namesake of Mount Tom, cable cars such as this and its companion the Elizur Holyoke, brought passengers up and down Mount Tom daily. The cable car is filled to capacity with seated well-dressed passengers. In the front are the motorman and conductor, both of whom are dressed in Mount Tom Rail Road uniforms. This image is taken from the right side of the car, showing the wheel structure of the trolley. In the background is a railroad station.
