Image of Parsons Paper Company, Mill Number 2. Parsons Paper Mill, Holyoke's longest running Paper Company, was in operation from 1853 to 2005. Parsons Mill produced paper for specialty paper firms. Their products included fine writing paper, safety paper used in making checks, and high quality art and resume paper. Even while most firms switched to creating pulp paper, Parsons continued the tradition of creating paper with cotton rags. It even included its own rag room, an anomaly during a time when most received their rags from southern companies. The mill building found in this drawing is Parsons Paper Company #2. This building was purchased in 1888 from Holyoke Water Power Company and was found on Sargeant Street. The drawing shows the buildings' placement between the First and Second Level Canals. One can also see the tracks for the Holyoke and Westfield line. The architecture of this building is typical of 19th century mill construction with its W shaped layout and plain facade.
