<mods:note type='biographical/historical'>The Boston Theatre opened in 1794 at its original location at Federal and Franklin Streets. The first structure was torn down in 1852 and replaced by a more lavish theater at 539 Washington Street in 1854. Dion Boucicault (1820-1890), an actor, dramatist and theatrical producer born in Dublin, Ireland, came to America in 1853 after eloping with the actress Agnes Robertson (1833-1916). Robertson, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland and the ward of English actor Charles Kean, had begun her theatrical career at the age of thirteen. Of the couple’s six children, three became actors. Claiming that they had never been legally wed, Boucicault left Robertson in 1885 to marry a much younger actress, Josephine Louise Thorndyke. Boucicault and Robertson officially divorced in 1888.</mods:note>
