Jerusalem has surrendered. Along the white and dusty Jaffa road, leading from the outskirts of the city, comes the Arab Mayor between two Turkish police bearing white flags of surrender. In the foreground stand Sergeants Hurcombe and Sedgwick of the 2-19th Battalion, 60th (London) Division, to whom fell the puzzling and unexpected honour of coping with one of the most dramatic moments in history. Though the date of the surrender was December 9th, the sergeants are still in summer clothing of the khaki drill with "shorts."
