Perambulation means "walking around". In traditional English law, it is used specifically to mean "determining the bounds of a legal area by walking around it", meaning physically walking around the region in question.
First day of May (or within a month), a list of males between the ages of eighteen and forty-five years of age eligible for military service is created. During the Civil War, a list of enlisted men is constructed and saved.
A mortgage is a legal agreement by which a creditor lends money with interest in exchange for taking title of the debtor's property, with the condition that the conveyance of title becomes void upon the payment of the debt. This includes personal property as well as real estate property. Most of the mortgages in this volume are for personal property. A list of goods being held as collateral is listed.
All names are transcribed as closely as possible as they are spelled in the book, not necessarily as current names are spelled. If a surname cannot be found in the printed version, check the handwritten book pages. Remember surnames are not necessarily spelled the exact same way year to year, town clerk to town clerk or generation to generation. Try various spelling forms when searching any surname.Transcribers may have a difficult time interpreting various forms of scrip, so check to see if an "n" is transcribed as "rr", "u", "m" or an “e”, “o” and an “a” could not be differentiated.
