Letter from Henry Brewster Stanton, New York, to Amos Augustus Phelps, [April 11 1840]
In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, Henry B. Stanton says the Emancipator may need to be dissolved because of the debts incurred. He also says he is for “honorable dissolution” of the old society and the organization of a new one. He then asks for confidentiality for a matter he has recently discussed with Phelps (presumably his approaching marriage). He also talks about selling books to raise money.
