In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, Gerrit Smith requests the enclosed, which is his response to Garrison’s attack on him in the Liberator, be handed in at the Liberator office with a request of speedy publication. He expresses his opinion against the possibility of adding a new national organization, and argues for one united society. He discusses the subject of the “National Conference Convention” to be held at Saratoga Springs, and James G. Birney as a political candidate.
