Letter from George Russell, Boston, to Amos Augustus Phelps, Aug. 11. [1840]
Description:
In this letter to Amos A. Phelps, George Russell discusses matters concerning a collection of articles to be published, presumably, in the Massachusetts Abolitionist. However, he also states that a committee voted to transfer the paper to the Emancipator. He then relays the content of John Scoble’s letter to Phelps about his (Scoble’s) letter to Mr. Phillips, which addressed the “women question,” and which was handed to Garrison in spite of Scoble’s request for confidentiality. Finally, he reports that Mr. Brackett will sign no more notes for the Abolitionist.
