Leter from Mrs. Amarancy Paine Sarle, Providence, [R. I.], to William Lloyd Garrison, Dec[ember] 24th [18]52
Description:
Amarancy Paine Sarle writes William Lloyd Garrison concerning her dire economic straits, confiding that after "seventeen years of constant, hard labor in the A. S. cause", she finds herself "without pecuniary means, & in debt". Sarle states that her friends have suggested that she form a subscription to recruit the aid of others in helping her resolve her situation, as the abolitionists in Rhode Island are "few & poor". Sarle informs Garrison that she is seeking contributions of $5 from whomsoever will aid her so that she can renew her abolitionist work.
