Letter from James Miller M'Kim, New York, [N.Y.], to William Lloyd Garrison, Sept[ember] 12th [1865]
Description:
James Miller M'Kim announces to William Lloyd Garrison the formation of the American Freedmen's Aid Commission, formed after "much correspondence & repeated conferences" between the freedmen's aid associations of Boston, Philadelphia, and others, and recounts some of its internal operations. M'Kim confides to Garrison that he is weary of "labor at organization", and asserts that his true mission is to "influence minds".
