Letter from Joseph Lupton, Leeds, [England], to William Lloyd Garrison, Feb[ruar]y 18 / [18]75
Description:
Joseph Lupton writes William Lloyd Garrison introducing him to his friend, the Unitarian minister and longtime abolitionist Reverend Brooke Herford. Lupton states that Herford will be visiting the United States for a period of several months, and that he intends to see Garrison's "great country & its various institutions", adding that Herford is particulary eager to "know & shake hands with some of the leading spirits" of the United States. Lupton declares that "any kindness" Garrison is able to show Herford upon his visit to Boston would be most welcome, but states that if Garrison is indisposed, he is certain that Francis Jackson Garrison would undertake anything asked of him for Herford. Lupton states that he hopes Garrison has by now heard word from George Thompson.
