Specimens of MS on vellum
- Description:
-
One 12th-century bifolium, possibly from England or Germany, including on fol. 1 recto the collect for the 4th Sunday after Pentecost and on fol. 2 verso, that for the 23rd Sunday. Two later bifolia possibly from a Sanctorale, include prayers for Saints Ambrose, Apollinaris, Leonhardis, Bricius, Othmar, Udalricus, Timothy, and blessed Walpurge, the saints suggesting a German origin for these leaves. The three sheets were originaly received sewn together, possibly by a dealer, with the earlier manuscript folded incorrectly with "quasi insipientes" and the dealer's manuscript label on the first leaf and enclosing the other two. The two later sheets are smaller and have been cut down into the text to serve as part of a binding, probably as lining papers. These leaves appear to be later, perhaps 14th-century and the product of a less skilled hand. The first leaf begins "sci alterus confessoris..." with some text crossed out and two lines partially scraped off.
