This map shows that the top 5 foreign languages spoken at home are Spanish, Chinese, French (Haitian) Creole, Portuguese & Cape Verdean Creole, and Vietnamese. Approximately 37% of Bostonians age five and older speak a language other than English at home, an increase of 4% from 2000 to 2015. The neighborhoods of East Boston, Roxbury, and Mission Hill have the highest percentages of foreign languages spoken at home. In Boston Public Schools during 2016-2017, 45% of the students spoke a language other than English as their first language, while English Language Learner students speak more than 71 different languages as their home language.
