The American Red cross Roll Calls, initiated in 1917, occurred annually around Christmastime for 25 years. The main purpose was to generate funds by asking the public to join the membership and pay a $1 due. The campaign was instrumental in raising millions for the organization and increasing members from 286,000 to 20 million in just two years.
